Please provide some details about your relevant skills/experience to help us understand how you might contribute to the project.

Approximate amount of time you could devote to the project (hours per week, etc.)

Would you like to help us build a network of automated surveillance stations? You will be working with some of the most experienced scientists, engineers, and researchers pursuing the science of anomalous aerial phenomena. Please contact us if you have an interest, even if you don’t see your area of expertise listed. We would love to talk with you to discuss how you might help.

CAD Design

We are looking for someone experienced in working with CAD design software, such as AUTOCAD or similar programs, to help us design the station layout and components.

Computer Programming

We anticipate a need for programmers primarily in the Linux environment, but with an occasional need for Windows programming. Our current most pressing need is for those with experience in C, C++, and Linux scripting. Our future needs include computer vision (motion detection and pattern recognition) programming skills so experience with Linux Motion and OpenCV or other vision libraries will be very helpful. Experience with computer vision and motion detection in the Windows environment is also welcome.

Computer Networking

The UFODATA network is anticipated to be modular and flexible, based on Linux, but with modules operating on both Linux and Windows. We will need network professionals familiar with any of the following: Linux networking and inter-process communications, Internet protocols, or data communication protocols (RS-232, RS-485, USB, etc.).

Computer Hardware

The monitoring station will consist of hardware that will be in the elements 24/7, monitoring around the clock and sending data to a central server. If you have experience with military-grade computing hardware, building computers, computer maintenance, networking equipment (routers, modems, cellular, hubs, switches, etc.), or cabling - we can use your expertise.

Digital Media

If you are experienced in creating digital content for the web, we'd like to talk to you. We also welcome expertise in Website interface design; development of graphics; coding in HTML5, CSS, and Javascript; and delivery of video via both desktop and mobile web browsers.

Social Media

We are looking for people who are savvy and experienced with social media to help promote the UFODATA project to a wide audience and help our fundraising campaign.

Construction and Testing of Hardware Platforms

If you have a background in the construction of platforms of instruments of various types, and/or the development of testing plans and actual testing activities, we would be interested in talking with you.

Project Management

The team will need an individual with experience and time to manage our technical effort, including assisting in the development of the technical project plan, assigning of tasks, construction of a project schedule, and then keeping the team to that schedule. This role doesn’t require someone who necessarily has extensive technical background, but he/she will need to be able to understand the cameras, instrumentation, and software adequately to drive the technical development. Communication skills are very important.

Fundraising

If you have worked on crowdfunding projects, your experience could be very helpful to UFODATA. Even if you haven’t, we need assistance with managing all aspects of fundraising for a scientific and engineering project, so if you have relevant experience, let’s talk.

Legal

There are several issues that may require legal advice for UFODATA activities, including station location, station testing, intellectual property, and liability.

Scientific Data Analysis

The following scientific expertise will be especially useful when we have begun data collection in the field: 1) data reduction and analysis in the fields of CCD and video photometry, optical spectroscopy, VLF/ELF and UHF spectrometry, and fluxgate magnetometry; 2) correlation data analysis and analysis of instrumented/scientific time series data.
